Boston, MA — Built in community

The work is finding where unjust systems can be interrupted — and building the tools to do it.

I'm Asia Lakay Grady — a Black liberation technologist, cooperative economist, documentary filmmaker, and practitioner-theorist. I build civic infrastructure rooted in Liberation Logic: a framework for mapping institutional power, identifying leverage points, and building toward cooperative ownership as the structural answer.

Liberation Logic

A tool for applying pressure
where it actually changes things.

Liberation Logic is not a description of power — it's an instrument for interrupting it. Adapted from cascade control theory, informed by Donella Meadows' leverage points concept, and rooted in a materialist feminist tradition that asks whose labor has been made invisible and why, it identifies where systems can be changed rather than just critiqued.

Applied to low-income housing quality standards, it produces verification suppression theory. Applied to energy, it produces Solar Roots Co-op. Applied to civic information, it produces the Policy Shift Tracker. Applied to capital, it produces CommonGround. The framework is the same. The domain changes.

01 · Diagnose
Who is made invisible here?
Whose labor, knowledge, and harm is not being counted in the current accounting of this system — and is the invisibility by omission or by design?
02 · Map
How is the invisibility maintained?
What are the nested feedback loops — institutional, cultural, neurological — that reproduce the exclusion and make it feel natural rather than constructed?
03 · Locate
Where are the leverage points?
Following Meadows: where in the system can a small, precise intervention produce disproportionate change? Numbers are at the bottom. Paradigms are at the top.
04 · Build
What does cooperative ownership make possible here?
What form of democratic control would shift who benefits from the system's outputs — and what tool, platform, or organization makes that shift concrete?
Intellectual lineage
Adapted from cascade control theory · Donella Meadows' leverage points in a system · Starhawk's power-over / power-with · Deboleena Roy's materialist feminism · Robert Anton Wilson's nested circuit model · Doris Lessing's deep-time frame · Toni Morrison, Ralph Ellison, Richard Wright · a Boston Black Baptist church with roots in the abolitionist movement and the Underground Railroad — the tradition that formed me before I had words for what it was.

Current Research

My honors paper, Rational Criminality: Housing Quality, Chronic Disease, and the Case for Community-Controlled Weatherization, introduces verification suppression as an original theoretical contribution — the mechanism by which institutions suppress documentation of harm to avoid accountability, extending Becker's rational criminal model into housing and environmental justice. Fall 2026: continuing the research through a narrower environmental science lens, with formal honors program submission this semester.

Deployed Infrastructure

Tools that ship.

Six years of building civic and cooperative technology — without a big tech credential and without waiting for permission. Everything below is deployed, documented, and real.

Civic Tech · Community Platform
Front Porch Economics
Community platform for mission-driven builders. Full auth stack: email identity, SMS PIN via Twilio, JWT session cookies. The infrastructure that Liberation Logic runs on.
Workers · D1 · Pages · Twilio SMS auth
Cooperative Capital
CommonGround
Cooperative capital marketplace with quadratic funding. Democratic resource allocation as infrastructure — the math works, the ownership model is the point.
Cloudflare Pages · Quadratic funding logic
Civic Technology · Liberation Logic Applied
Policy Shift Tracker
Pulls directly from the Federal Register to surface policy shifts in real time — search, browse, and subscribe to alerts. Making federal policy movement legible to communities that are affected before they're consulted.

Cooperative Energy · Board Seat
Solar Roots Co-op
Community energy education, food sovereignty, and solar workforce training. I hold a board seat. Active MassCEC Equity Workforce Planning Grant target (up to $50K). Cooperative economics in practice, not just theory.

practice lanes

Practice

Four lanes, one framework.

The work takes different forms — software, documentary, on-camera, consulting — but it runs on the same underlying logic. Liberation Logic is what connects the code to the camera to the co-op board seat to the fellowship application.

Civic Software
Full-stack civic and cooperative infrastructure on the Cloudflare edge — Workers, D1, Pages, React. From prototype to deployed product, with AI integrated end to end. Open source where the community benefits from transparency.
Documentary Media
Social-impact storytelling from concept to delivery — field production, edit, AI-assisted post. Current work: Uninhabitable (housing displacement) and ongoing geopolitical media for Perspective 33. Training as a Neo Soul recording artist means the sonic dimension is always present.
On-Camera & Voice
Hosting, narration, and voice work — on camera and on mic. A background as a Neo Soul recording artist and producer means the delivery is trained, warm, and precise. Available for presenting, moderating, podcast and radio formats, and narration.
Research & Advisory
Consulting grounded in lived practice: cooperative economics and community-owned models, AI adoption for small teams and mission-driven organizations, systems navigation for caregivers and families managing complex institutions. Engagements shaped to your situation.
